Red Light & Photobiomodulation

Full-body panels and targeted applicators using specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light. Among the simplest things offered here, and the easiest to schedule around.

What a session involves

You stand or lie in front of a panel array, or an applicator is positioned over one area, for roughly ten to twenty minutes. Eyewear is provided and is not optional. The light is warm but not hot, there is no UV component, and there is no recovery time - people book these over a lunch hour.

Wavelength is the whole specification

Photobiomodulation refers to specific bands in the red and near-infrared range, and a device that does not publish its wavelengths and irradiance is not telling you what it does. Ours are documented and we will show you the figures. “Red light” as a marketing term covers a great deal of equipment that is simply a coloured bulb.

Who should check first

Photosensitising medications are the main issue - several common antibiotics, some acne treatments, and a number of others make light exposure a problem. Bring your medication list. Active skin cancer or a suspicious lesion in the treatment area is a reason to see a dermatologist rather than book a session, and pregnancy is worth flagging.

Reasonable expectations

The evidence base here is more developed for some uses than others, and the strongest work is generally in skin and musculoskeletal applications. We are not going to extrapolate from that to systemic claims.

How this fits with your care

Everything at BiomedRx Med Spa is complementary to your regular medical care and never a replacement for it. We do not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease, and we do not promise outcomes. Every service starts with a consultation, and some of them start with a screening that can end in us telling you no. If what you need belongs with your physician or a specialist, we will say so and help you get there.
